03 days dunes, Ksars and Oases: a trip from Djerba to the south

Day 1: Djerba –  Ksar El Ferch – Ksar Haddada  – Chenini – Ksar Ghilane

Start your adventure after breakfast, crossing the Roman causeway from Djerba to the mainland. Begin with a visit to the ksar (fortified granaries) of Médenine. Continue to Tataouine, known for its bustling spice market. After lunch, explore the ancient Berber village of Chenini on foot, then head to Ksar Ghilane, a secluded oasis nestled in the desert. Here, you'll find a warm natural spring surrounded by red sand dunes. Arrive at the hotel EL PANSY for a unique overnight experience in tents. Dinner will be served under the desert sky.

Day 2: Ksar Ghilane – Douz – Chott El Jerid – Tozeur – Ong Jmel  

After breakfast, depart for Douz, often called the "Gateway to the Sahara." Explore the lively market square, with an option for a camel ride across the majestic desert dunes. Continue towards Tozeur, passing the immense Chott El Jerid salt lake. After lunch, enjoy a tour of Tozeur, the largest oasis in Tunisia, and visit the historic district of Ouled el Hadef. In the late afternoon, journey across desert trails to reach Ong Jmel and Ariguette, famous filming locations for Star Wars, The English Patient, and Black Gold. Overnight in hotel Ras Elain Tozeur with half board.

Day 3: Tozeur – Mountain Oases – Ong Jmel  – Matmata  – Médenine – Djerba

After breakfast, visit the stunning mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides, once Roman military outposts that defended the empire's borders. Chebika offers an enchanting palm grove with a spring-fed oasis nestled in rocky mountains. Continue to Tamerza, where the river forms small, picturesque waterfalls. Lunch in typical restaurant in Tamerza in the oase.After visiting the Mides canyon. The journey continues towards Matmata, where you will explore troglodyte homes—unique underground dwellings carved into the hills. Return to Djerba via Mareth and Jorf.
