08 days from Ruins to Desert Oases

Day 1: Arrival in Tunis

• Reception at Tunis airport by our staff.
• Transfer to the hotel Africa in Tunis, subject to availability,dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 2: Tunis - Carthage - Medina - Bardo Museum

• After breakfast, visit the Bardo Museum (renowned Roman mosaics collection) and the Medina (old town) of Tunis.
• Lunch.
• Afternoon visit to Carthage (Punic and Roman ruins), then Sidi Bou Saïd (a picturesque town with stunning views of the Gulf of Tunis).
• Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel Africa in Tunis, subject to availability.

Day 3: Tunis - Kairouan - Sbetla - Gafsa - Tozeur

• After breakfast, head to Kairouan, a prime example of Islamic classical architecture. Visit the Great Mosque of Okba, the Sidi Sahbi Mausoleum, and the famous water cisterns.
• Free time in the local souk, famous for handicrafts, carpets, and brassware.
• Lunch.
• In the afternoon, visit Sbetla’s Roman and Byzantine ruins before continuing to Tozeur.
• Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel Ras Elain in Tozeur,subject to availability.

Day 4: Tozeur

• After breakfast, explore the mountain oases: Chebika, Tamerza (waterfalls), and Mides (canyons).
• Lunch in Tamerza
• Later, drive through desert tracks to Ong Jmel and Ariguette (filming locations for Star Wars, The English Patient, Black Gold) and watch the sunset over the dunes.
• Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel Ras Elain in Tozeur,subject to availability.

Day 5: Tozeur - Douz - Matmata - Toujane - Metameur - Medenine - Djerba

• After breakfast, head to Chott el Jerid, a vast salt lake.
• Visit Douz, known as the "gateway to the desert" and inhabited by the Mrazig tribe. Visit the local market.
• Optional camel ride through the dunes (at guest’s expense).
• Continue to Matmata and visit a troglodyte Berber family.
• Lunch in Matmata
• Afterward, visit the Berber village of Toujane and its “Kalaa” (hilltop fortress).
• In Metameur and Medenine, explore the "Ksour" (ancient storage fortresses for a semi-nomadic society).
• Arrive in Djerba via the Roman road.
• Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel Iberostar Mehari  Djerba,subject to availability.

Day 6: Djerba - Mareth - Gabes - Sfax

• After breakfast, explore Djerba by visiting Guellala pottery, the Ghriba Synagogue, and the capital, Houmt Souk.
• Take the ferry and head to Mareth, arriving in Gabes for lunch.
• In the afternoon, visit the spice market (Souk Jara) and the coastal oasis.
• Continue to Sfax, known for its unique fortified Medina that retains its commercial character.
• Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel Les Oliviers in Sfax, subject to availability.

Day 7: Sfax - El Jem - Monastir - Sousse - Tunis

• After breakfast, depart for El Jem to admire the 3rd-century Roman amphitheater.
• Arrive in Monastir, visit the Habib Bourguiba Mausoleum and the Place des Martyrs.
• Lunch.
• Free time in Sousse, with a visit to the historic "Ribat" fortification.
• Dinner and overnight  at a hotel  Africa in Tunis, subject to availability.

Day 8: Departure

• Breakfast. Transfer to Tunis-Carthage airport at the scheduled time.
